In the description of the Guard skill, on page 308, it says "Block, Dodge or Parry maneuvers described in the Battle and Melee section are uses of the Guard skill".
In the Battle and Melee chapter, it's explained that a Block roll uses the Shield skill, Parry uses a Weapon skill, and Dodge will presumably use the derived Dodge attribute, which doesn't appear to develop as a skill.
Should I read this to mean that if, for example, a character attempts a Parry by making an ATK roll with his Weapon skill ranks, he should mark his Guard skill for an advancement check?
But, the Block maneuver is also described under the Shield skill on page 364, and would seem to count as a use of the Shield skill for purposes of advancement.
If the Guard skill has more ranks than Shield, Dodge, or the relevant Weapon skill, can Guard be a substitute in the Dodge/Block/Parry roll, and be considered for advancement?
Sorry if I'm just being dense, or if this is covered in the book somewhere.
